"INVITING TWENTY-FIRST-CENTURY STUDENTS TO THE EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY PARTY"

This article presents a classroom activity that increases students’ empathy for literary characters. In heightening students’ relationship to eighteenth-century characters, I argue, professors can bring the eighteenth century closer to contemporary students.
